Live Video Streaming from your DVR to iPad/iPhone

Once you download the apps onto your iPod/iPad etc you can access these activities on your DVR, imagine someone is watching their pre recorded show in the lounge room and you want to catch up on the action from last night’s cricket/football match you recorded………well now you can, simply stream the recording to you iPad and watch it. You can even pause, rewind, fast forward like you would straight from your DVR.

You will need two apps Apple Air Play and STB Remocon, both available through the App Store.

What to look for when buying a Digital Set Top Box

With analogue TV transmission being phased out across Australia by 2013, and in some areas of Australia has already happened - if you don’t already own a set top box, you will need to get one to enjoy television. There are several good reasons not to wait for analogue to be switched off in your area. Without a digital set top box, you are missing out on several new Freeview channels (only available on Digital TV) and other benefits including the ability to record and replay live television.

A set top box is basically a digital tuner for your TV set. Most new televisions these days feature an inbuilt digital tuner, eliminating the need to buy an additional set-top box. However, for those with older televisions, set top boxes offer the cheapest avenue for going digital. Even if you have a Digital TV, how do you record all your favorite programs? A DVR is a fantastic option.

Before deciding on what set top box you should buy, think about what features you would like. If all you want to do is be able to watch digital TV, a set top box without the bells and whistles is all you will need, such as SRT 5431 RRP $69.00, there is even a combination Digital Set Top Box and DVD Player – SRT 6002 – just think one less remote!

SRT 5431 features:

On-screen menus that are easy to understand
Automatic tuning
Front panel controls as well as a remote control
DVR Ready for additional recording functions (when an external USB Hard Drive is added)
USB for Software Updates and Multimedia Playback

Installing a set to box is easy. Just attach the digital set to box between your current TV and the aerial and you are ready to go. However, check to see whether you will need a new aerial to attach your set top box. In most cases new aerials aren’t necessary but older aerials may require replacing.

However, If you are interested in not only watching Digital TV, but also enjoying its other features including the ability to pause and rewind live TV, skip ads & record shows you may want to go for a Digital Video Recorder (DVR or PVR) instead. Be aware that DVRs are dearer than set top boxes.

If you want to enjoy the additional benefits a DVR has to offer, look for a device with:

A dual or double digital tuner, having more than one tuner allows you to record on one or two different channels simultaneously while watching another.
Smart Series Recording (handy but not essential)
Pause & Rewind live TV

There are various other options to choose from in a DVR, including; Internet browsing – Facebook, YouTube, Internet Radio, Weather etc. It really depends on your budget and what features you think you may need. If you want everything? try the SRT 7000

How to Unzip files

We are often asked how to unzip files from our website……for various reasons we have had to ZIP certain files especially software updates on our website ie; SRT 5430, 5431, 6002. If you have downloaded a software file for updating your STRONG receiver from our software page and are unsure how to unzip it, please follow these basic instructions.

1. Download the correct file from our software page and save it to your desktop or downloads folder.
2. Once downloaded, should only take a minute or two right click with your mouse to open a list of tasks

3. Then select Extract Here as in the image above.
4. You can then select the unzipped file (your PC might not recognize the file type, but that is OK your set top box will.)

5. This file should appear next to the zip file, you can then right click and save to a USB drive and install on your set top box or DVR.

Date fix for STRONG Set Top Box and DVRs

Have you been experiencing incorrect date on your STRONG Set Top Box or Digital Video Recorder? Well we now have a fix for that. New software has been added to our website to allow you to update the software direct yourself……..it’s easy to do and takes about 5mins.

Visit http://www.strong.com.au/software.html and then scroll down the list to find your model number. (All STRONG units have a model number on front panel – usually on left hand side ie; SRT 5429.
Click on the download to get the software; save it on your desktop
Insert a USB key, flash drive etc into you computer, copy the software you saved on your desktop into the USB device. Remove from PC
Now plug the USB device into the USB socket on your STRONG unit, most models have a handy USB on the front panel.
Access main menu and select USB, select USB Update to start the software update. (some models may vary for software update, please refer to user manual if different from listed above ie; USB located in File Manager)
Reboot your unit and then do a factory reset & You’re done!!

**Please note you may loose any recordings on your DVR, depending on what version of software you are currently using.

STRONG Announces Smart Series Record Feature for DVR

Want to be able to record every episode of your favorite TV Programs with just the click of a button? Now you can – STRONG introduces SSR for Digital Video Recorders.

STRONG announces Smart Series Record

So what is SSR? When you bring up the EPG (Electronic Program Guide) on your DVR and select the program you wish to record, you then select the SSR option and your DVR will search the EPG for the program title and automatically record it. The Program Title is embedded in the EPG text broadcasted by the Networks. So if your ‘Show’ is on channel 2 at 8:30 pm every Monday night and suddenly changes to 7:30pm on Wednesday night, your DVR will record it for you. Add to that if the program on before the one you wish to record is running late your DVR will adjust the record time so you don’t miss the end of your show; like that NEVER happens right?

Smart Series recording available from DVR EPG

Initially launched on the SRT 7000, it is now available (or will be very shortly) on most STRONG DVRs; SRT 5495A/T, SRT 5498, SRT 5495/5492 etc. A simple update of software will bring this feature to life on your current DVR.
